The Pride Agenda Endorses CHARLES KING

Charles King is an attorney from Rockland County who vows to fight to provide the same civil rights for the LGBT community that are enjoyed by all communities in the state. He is a proponent of adoption rights for same-sex couples. He supports legislation that would expand the definition of a family to include same-sex couples. His history of support for the LGBT community includes work on behalf of the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, when he worked as the associate counsel to the Assembly Codes Committee and fought for inclusion of sexual orientation in the hate crimes legislation. Mr. King represented protesters from the Mathew Shepard vigil in 1998, bringing charges to the Civilian Complaint Review Board over police brutality and misconduct.

Mr. King has been endorsed by the Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens, the Guillermo Vazquez Independent Democratic Club and the Out People of Color Political Action Club.

Dennis Mehiel is a New York City native who founded the Four M Corporation, now based in Westchester County and called Box USA. Mr. Mehiel is currently chairman of S.F. Holdings in New York City. He has been active in the Democratic Party at the state and county levels. Mr. Mehiel did not return a candidate questionnaire to the Pride Agenda.

Mr. Mehiel has been endorsed by the Stonewall Democrats of Westchester County, Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn and the Stonewall Democrats of Western New York.

Both candidates support SONDA, the Dignity for All Students Act and legalization of same-sex marriages.
