NASSAU COUNTY LEGISLATURE

District 1
Kevan Abrahams - D,I,WF (Incumbent)
Running for his second term, Kevan Abrahams recently voted for the CSEA contract for Nassau County employees, which includes a section giving the same benefits to an employee's domestic partner as it does to an employee's spouse. He has expressed support for the issues concerning Nassau's LGBT community and a desire to collaborate with LGBT organizations to be sure that we are heard in county government.
   
District 4
Michael Zapson - D (Incumbent)
In 2000, Michael Zapson joined with his colleagues to help pass a piece of human rights legislation expanding the Nassau County human rights law to include the categories of sexual orientation, among others. He recently voted in favor of the CSEA contract that gave domestic partner benefits to county employees. He has pledged to continue to be an advocate on behalf of the LGBT community.
   
District 6
Richard Glassberg - D (Challenger)
Richard Glassberg is challenging incumbent Francis Becker Jr. (R,I,C). If elected, he hopes to foster a relationship between his office and the Nassau LGBT community. He has pledged to sponsor and support legislation that would further equal rights for our community.
   
District 10
Lisanne Altmann - D,I,WF (Incumbent)
A strong and outspoken advocate for the LGBT community, Lisanne Altmann voted for both the recent CSEA contract providing domestic partnership benefits to county employees as well as the human rights law expansion bill in 2000. In addition, she has helped strengthen the anti-bias task force within the Nassau County Police Department.
   
District 11
Craig Johnson - D (Incumbent)
In 2000, Craig Johnson voted for the bill expanding the Nassau County human rights law to include sexual orientation, among other categories, as well as joined the effort to work for its passage. In recent months, he has begun work on the introduction of a bill that would create a domestic partnership registry in Nassau County. Johnson has also started a program in which he visits the elementary and middle schools in the district to speak with students about tolerance, peer pressure, the prevention of bullying and other difficult issues.
   
District 12
John Rennhack - D,L,WF (Challenger)
John Rennhack is challenging incumbent Peter Schmitt (R,I,C). He has pledged to sponsor LGBT-supportive legislation in the Nassau County Legislature if elected. Along with his vote, he would make sure there was open communication between his office and the LGBT community, so that we were apprised of actions that affect us. Rennhack has also stated support for legal recognition of same-sex unions.
   
District 16
Judith Jacobs - D,I (Incumbent)
An advocate of fair and equitable treatment for all individuals, Judith Jacobs spearheaded an effort in 2000 to adopt human rights legislation that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and a number of other categories. As the presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature, she has consistently been out front on LGBT rights.
   
District 17
Linda Burns-Gleason - D,L (Challenger)
Linda Burns-Gleason is challenging incumbent Edward Mangano (R,I,C). As a community activist and an active member of local and national LGBT organizations, she has attended community forums, spoken at events and written to elected officials about LGBT issues. As a county legislator, if elected, she has pledged to continue organizing and educating constituents around furthering equality for the LGBT community. She has committed herself to fighting against those who would seek to limit our rights.
   
District 19
David Denenberg - D,I,G,WF (Incumbent)
David Denenberg voted for both the recent CSEA contract providing domestic partnership benefits to county employees as well as the human rights law expansion bill in 2000. The only Nassau County Legislator to hold monthly public meetings, he has used some of these meetings to discuss issues central to the LGBT community.
