Tompkins County and Ithaca:

Tompkins County District Attorney - Gwen Wilkinson (D, WFP - Challenger)

Ms. Wilkinson is an attorney in Trumansburg. She served on the board of the LGBT Task Force in Ithaca, and on the Board of AIDSwork Ithaca. She helped draft and pass the local ordinance barring discrimination based on sexual orientation. She answered every question on the questionnaire correctly.

The Empire State Pride Agenda is proud to endorse Gwen Wilkinson's candidacy for Tompkins County District Attorney.

Ms. Wilkinson is challenging Republican George Dentes, who did not return a questionnaire seeking the Pride Agenda's endorsement.

Tompkins County Legislature, 1st District - Pamela Mackesey (D - Open Seat)

Ms. Mackesey is a teacher and labor organizer and served two terms on the Ithaca Common Council. She organized straight allies in support of Ithaca's sexual orientation non-discrimination ordinance. She is on the Tompkins County Democratic Committee and answered every question on the questionnaire correctly.

The Empire State Pride Agenda is proud to endorse Pamela Mackesey's candidacy for Tompkins County Legislature, 1st District.

Ms. Mackesey is facing Republican Tom Ludgate, who did not submit a questionnaire seeking the Pride Agenda's endorsement.

Tompkins County Legislature, 2nd District - Leslyn McBean-Clairborne (D, WFP - Incumbent)

Ms. McBean-Clairborne has been a member of the Tompkins County Legislature since 2001 and is also a former Human Rights Commissioner for the county. She answered every question on the questionnaire correctly, adding: "I have supported and lobbied my colleagues to support all legislation brought to County government that benefits the LGBT community and will continue to advocate for their basic human and civil rights afforded to everyone."

The Empire State Pride Agenda is proud to endorse Leslyn McBean-Clairborne's re-election to the 2nd District of the Tompkins County Legislature.

Ms. McBean-Clairborne is running unopposed.

Tompkins County Legislature, 5th District - Kathy Luz Herrera (D, WFP - Incumbent)

Ms. Herrera was the first openly gay candidate elected to the Tompkins County Legislature. She sponsored and played a key role in the passage of the county's transgender civil rights law. She is a union electrician and a former member of the Cornell Working Group on Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Employment issues. She answered every question on the questionnaire correctly, adding: "I have a record of effective advocacy. I have the respect of my peers, whether on the Legislature, on the shop floor, or in the neighborhood. I'm known as a coalition builder who sees that the job gets done, regardless of who gets the credit. While building community within the LGBT community, I'm building a better future for our community as a whole."

Ms. Luz Herrera is a champion of LGBT issues and has a proven record supporting our community as an elected official. The Empire State Pride Agenda is proud to endorse Kathy Luz Herrera's re-election to the 3rd District of the Tompkins County Legislature.

Ms. Herrera is running unopposed.

City of Ithaca Common Council, 2nd Ward - J.R. Clairborne (D, WFP - Open seat)

Mr. Clairborne is a journalist and Ithaca 2nd Ward Democratic Committee Chair. He answered every question on the questionnaire correctly, adding: "As an African-American male who has both witnessed and experienced discrimination, as well as someone who believes vehemently in equality, I would… stand supportive of legislation or other initiatives - through advocacy, attending rallies or press conferences - protective of the civil and human rights of members of the LGBT community."

Mr. Clairborne is running unopposed.

Ithaca Town Board - Patricia A. Leary (D, WFP - Open Seat)

Ms. Leary served two four-year terms on the Ithaca Town Board in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She answered every question on the questionnaire correctly, adding: "Equal rights is an important principle that is increasingly under attack. Support for equal rights is basic to Democratic values. I believe we need each other now more than ever, and should strengthen our alliances."
