 Development Assistant (New York City)

Description:
The Empire State Pride Agenda Foundation is New York's statewide civil rights organization committed to winning equality and justice for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) New Yorkers and our families. The Development Department of the Pride Agenda is seeking a full-time Development Assistant in its New York City office. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Assistant provides support to a staff of four in the Pride Agenda’s development program.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Database Administration: Processing of gift donations and event registrations through daily batch procedures; data entry and ongoing maintenance of donor records; facilitating acknowledgement and mail merge correspondence; preparation of reports to the Board of Directors, producing mailing lists, data queries and exports; working in connection with the finance department on budget and income reporting and reconciliation; assistance with periodic data enhancement and import projects.
  • Special Events Assistance: Attend and provide assistance for special events, major donor events, and committee meetings; assisting with all aspects of special events, including donor tracking and event production; administrative tasks and on-site event registration. Position requires some evening and weekend hours, especially during summer and fall event seasons.
  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative and clerical support for daily operations; assist in the maintenance of donor records; preparation of purchase orders; coordinate department time sheets.
  • Donor Communication: Manage input and execution of invoices and pledges, prepare and process acknowledgment letters; correspondence for development and executive staff (thank you notes, draft letters, etc.); assist in the coordination of donor appointments.
  • Donor Research: Assist in the preparation of donor and prospect information, including detailed research profiles, prospect lists, ratings and wealth analysis.
  • Undertakes special projects at the direction of the Director of Development.

 

Qualifications:

  • One to two years of job experience, preferably related job experience in non-profit fundraising, administration, information management, or finance;
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Raiser’s Edge database software;
  • Professional demeanor and discretion in handling donor information;
  • Ability to perform multiple and complex tasks, which can include technical and confidential information;
  • Superior computer and database management skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel and Powerpoint;
  • Self-starter, extremely well-organized with strong oral, written, interpersonal and administrative skills;
  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Willingness to work in a team environment;
  • Commitment to the mission of the Empire State Pride Agenda

Communications Coordinator - Online Media

Location: New York, NY

Summary: The Empire State Pride Agenda is New York’s statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights and advocacy organization. Our mission is to win equality and justice for LGBT New Yorkers and our families. Through our education, organizing and advocacy programs, we work toward creating a broadly diverse alliance of LGBT people and our allies in government, communities of faith, labor, all sectors of the workforce and other social justice movements to achieve equality for LGBT New Yorkers and the broader goals of social, racial and economic justice.

The Pride Agenda is looking for a smart, creative, new-media savvy and detail-oriented addition to the communications team. The Communications Coordinator will be primarily responsible for: maintaining and updating the Pride Agenda’s website; managing the day-to-day operation of the Pride Agenda’s online media tools; coordinating the OffSprung! young professionals outreach program; basic production, videography/photography and design work as needed; and generally assisting the communications team with special projects and day-to-day tasks.  The position reports to the Communications Director.

Principal Duties:

  • Maintain the Pride Agenda’s website, www.prideagenda.org, which includes managing the process for updating content on the website and launching new website initiatives. Will require working closely with staff across disciplines.
  • Utilize constituent management system (GetActive/Convio) to send periodic e-newsletters, email messages and advocacy modules to database of supporters
  • Have a good understanding of blogs, podcasts, social networking sites and other web-based sharing/networking platforms and new media technologies
  • Develop and maintain relationships with bloggers and other individuals/organizations overseeing online social networks covering LGBT issues and New York State politics
  • Maintain the organization’s blog and social media platforms, produce podcasts and develop ways to utilize new media tools to deepen and broaden the Pride Agenda’s outreach efforts
  • Coordinate the OffSprung! young professionals outreach initiative, which will involve working with committee members and volunteers to create and execute programming and events aimed at engaging LGBT people and allies between the ages of 22 – 35
  • Use of design/publication applications (i.e. Photo Shop, Quark, Final Cut, Garage Band, etc.)
  • Photography and/or videography skills are helpful, but not required.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience in communications, media, public affairs or related field.  You should have excellent writing skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to multi-task and work with people.  You should be detail-oriented, well-organized, self-directed, familiar with the issues that are important to the organization, computer literate and web savvy.  It will be helpful to have some familiarity with HTML (or be able to learn). Knowledge of state and local politics in New York is a plus but not necessary.
